Business Travel Diaries: How I prepare for a Week of On-Site Meetings
There is something both energizing and exhausting about traveling for work. This past week, I packed my bags and headed to New Jersey for a full schedule of on-site meetings, long days, full agendas, and the rare joy of seeing colleagues in person.
Over the years I have developed a few go-to strategies that help me stay grounded and polished while on the road. Whether you’re prepping for your own business trip or just love a behind-the-scenes look, here is a peek into how I pack, plan, and stay centered during the week. I’m sharing the items I can’t live without.

Pre-Travel Prep Tips:
- Prep Your Home Life First – Before even opening a suitcase I make sure things at home are set. I stock the fridge with easy meals, leave notes and schedules for the kids, lay out everything they may need for the week and double check schedules. Thankfully, we have a very supportive family who helps out in every way possible when I have to travel but I still like knowing that everything is as planned out, as possible.
- Outfits by Day – I plan my outfits for each day of meetings ahead of time and pack them in order, along with accessories and undergarments. This keeps my suitcase streamlined and avoids any early morning scrambles the day of my flight. Pro Tip: I always pack a neutral blazer that can elevate any look.
- Travel-Size Everything – I keep a pre-packed toiletry bag with all my favorite skincare, haircare, and makeup essentials in travel sizes. It saves so much time and keeps me from forgetting anything. I also make sure my tech bag is fully stocked with charges, adapters, and headphones.
- Beauty and Wellness Boost – A couple days before leaving, I book a hair appointment and get a fresh coat of polish (usually a neutral manicure that can hold up all week). I also up my hydration, rest, and supplements to help my immune system before the airport hustle.
Staying Grounded on the Road:
- Create a Mini Routine – A morning routine when traveling is a must. A quick workout in the hotel gym, followed by a protein-packed breakfast helps bring a few minutes of quiet before the chaos begins.
- Stay Polished, Not Perfect – Long meetings and travel days happen. I focus on feeling comfortable and confident instead of perfectly styled. A great tote, hydrating mist, and a pair of block heels go a long way.
- Make Space for Moments – Even on a packed schedule I try to squeeze in something restorative. A quick journaling session, a walk on the treadmill in the gym after dinner, and always a call home to recap everyone’s day. It helps me reconnect and show up more fully the next day.
What I Pack:
- A wrinkle-resistant capsule wardrobe in classic neutrals
- One pair of polished flats and one pair of comfortable but stylish heels
- These Cole Haan pumps are a favorite!
- For an affordable but stylish loafer check out this pair!
- My favorite carry-on/meeting-ready tote stocked with essentials
- Think pens, highlighters & notebooks
- A travel-sized skincare routine to keep my skin glowing
- Collagen packets, energy/hydration packets, and protein bars for in-between moment
- Vitamin patches to keep me healthy and refreshed
